Scott Pilgrim Takes Off marks the triumphant return of the beloved Scott Pilgrim series based on Bryan Lee O'Malley's graphic novels. Fans familiar with the comics and the film adaptation will instantly recognize the central premise: Scott Pilgrim loves Ramona Flowers, and in order to date her he must defeat her seven evil exes. However, this eagerly awaited anime series takes a refreshing turn, shifting its focus to Ramona and her providing closure to those she may have inadvertently hurt. The series reunites the original film cast, adding an extra layer of authenticity to the characters' in-universe closure, a move that resonates seamlessly with the source material. The anime adaptation brilliantly captures the essence of Bryan Lee O'Malley's manga style, thanks to the commendable animation work by Studio Saru. The A-list cast's performances shine anew in this reimagined format, with growth arcs that breathe fresh life into familiar characters. Notable highlights include Ramona's compelling interactions with Roxy, Kim, and Knives, as well as the deeper development of characters like Wallace and Lucas. The series also allows for the exploration of creative ambitions for Stephen and Knives. Celebrating nostalgia while embracing innovation, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off underscores themes of forgiveness, personal growth, and love, all wrapped up in a delightful blend of humor and heartfelt storytelling.

Review notes
I hope that with this series’ success, we will see Netflix creating more anime series based on 2000s era OEL manga. I can think of a few that deserve an adaption, especially the likes of Megatokyo and Dramacon.
